2019 Garden Pinot Noir magnum
The Wine.
The Garden Vineyard, across the hill from us, is owned by the McFall family and has been leased and run by Moorooduc Estate for over ten years. Fruit was hand picked and whole bunches placed directly into the fermenter.
Translucent yet intense ruby in colour, with the classic whole-bunch Campari and cherry notes on the nose, and some vibrant grenadine and pomegranate lift. More pomegranate and cherry syrup flavours on the palate, with savoury thyme and oregano herbal notes, and some floral, rose petal perfume. The palate shows firm fine tannin structure balanced by fresh acidity making the wine seem more lifted and fragrant than previous years.

The 2019 Vintage.
The growing season started well with good soil moisture and regular rain events throughout spring. While calm, mild weather in November resulted in good flowering and fruit set, the resultant yields were slightly lower than usual. Healthy canopies appreciated regular rainfall in early summer, then through January and into February, a much dryer warmer weather pattern evolved, that would lead us to harvest. Because of this, harvest started earlier than originally expected, keeping us on our toes. The harvest was compressed, putting further pressure on the winery to keep up with fruit reception, however the quality of the resultant wines made the long hours well worth the effort.
