2018 McIntyre Shiraz

The Wine

The Moorooduc Estate whole bunch project continues with this wine – the whole bunch ferment adds both complexity and density to the wine. There are lifted floral notes, and enhanced savoury, firm tannins as a result of this winemaking technique. And it gives Richard a chance to put on his boots and walk around on the wine!

Deep purple in colour with a complex nose of red plum and cherry, black pepper spice, licorice and graphite notes.  On the palate the wine is mouthfilling, with dark blackberry and black plum fruit and some savoury earthy notes, dark cocoa and licorice strap on the finish.  Firm, fine grained tannins and tangy acidity play nicely together with black fruit notes lasting long after the wine is gone.

Match to a slow cooked navarin of lamb (that’s french for lamb cooked with turnips).

Vintage Notes

The 2018 Vintage was generous both in quality and quantity.  One of the most important aspects of vineyard management over this growing season to achieve the beautiful fruit that we did, was making sure we maintained vine balance.
