Dogs and Peacocks

Moorooduc Estate is home to a number of dogs, cats and birds.  It is almost another full time job just feeding everyone.

Samwise Gamgee (Sam), was our standard black poodle. His bark was worse than his bite and he was determined to be the scruffiest, toughest poodle on the block. He came to fame in the book, Wine Dogs and he had a wonderful way with a tennis ball. He died last September and the vineyard is much quieter as a result.

Pedro Ximenez, Kate's dog has taken over the management of the property, which he is finding quite stressful. Happiest when by Kate’s side. Preferably with a ball in his mouth or swimming in the dam. Newly tormented by assistant winemaker, Jeremy's new poodle puppy, Oscar. Diabolically cute greased lightning.'

Reg is our resident peacock. He turned up four or five years ago and he’s been here ever since.  He is very vocal over spring and early summer when his tail is magnificent and takes every opportunity to sneak into the restaurant to look at himself in the mirror.

Watch out for the two cats - Hope is the tortoiseshell and Jack the grey - they are not really tame, and may scratch.  Our chooks and ducks provide eggs for breakfast and for the pasta.
